The Assam government and Tata Trusts established the Assam Cancer Care Foundation to develop a first-of-its-kind grid to solve Assam’s cancer care burden. Currently, one world-class hospital covers the whole cancer patient path. Smaller centers in other locations, linked to the apex centers, seek to emerge to handle diagnosis and care, as well as to take the burden away from apex hospitals. This will bring high-quality cancer care closer to patients’ homes while reducing their financial burden. Infrastructure construction is underway, with goals to provide skilled human resources, awareness and preventive programs, and a single technological platform for providing high-quality treatment. In addition, a cutting-edge cancer research center is being established in Guwahati to focus on regional cancer types.
